| The countdown has begun: Kayser-Threde Satellite is ready for launchThe German national Satellite TET-1 is scheduled for launch on July 22 at 06:41:39 UTC (08:41:39 MEZ)from the Russian launch site in Baikonour (Kazakhstan) for deployment in a low Earth orbit. The satellite has been secured in its final flight position within the upper stage of the Soyus launcher since July 11. In space, the Technology Experiment Carrier (TET) will run a one-year series of experiments on the on-board flight samples. The high-tech company Kayser-Threde was selected by the DLR Space Administration (DLR: German Space Agency), for the realization of TET-1 (DLR) as prime contractor and systems leader. Kayser-Threde is also responsible for the satellite launch. Specialized technical staff from Kayser-Threde will also accompany the satellite throughout the early operational phase and give their support during routine operation. `TET-1 is a true `Muenchner Kindl` and I am confident that also in orbit it will be a tribute to the high-technology region of Bavaria`, says Juergen Breitkopf, Head CEO at Kayser-Threde GmbH. `The implementation of the TET-1 project is an important milestone for Kayser-Threde. We are also pleased to be working on a study together with our partners on a successor mission.` The Technology Experiment Carrier TET-1 has a total mass of 120 kg with a payload of 50 kg. The satellite obtained flight maturity in a total of 28 months.
Proof in Practice
The Technology Experiment Carrier TET-1 is the core element of the OOV Programme (On-Orbit Verification) of the German Space Agency (DLR) and serves the verification in space of products which were tested on ground. TET-1, which will be deployed at an altitude of 520 km is carrying 11 technology experiments on board; including new generation solar cells, a navigation receiver, a battery system, a pico propulsion system for satellites, computer hardware, a sensor bus system developed by Kayser-Threde for temperature measurement as well as an IR-camera for the detection of forest fires.
From Earth to Space. And Back.
The TET-1 mission is designed to carry out tests with the related experimental character. For this reason experiment control and regulation shall be enabled via telecommand, enabling the experimenters to follow their experiments and witness the behaviour of their samples during space flight. The experiment data activated via telecommand shall be stored in an on-board database before transmission to the satellite bus on Earth. This key function is carried out by the modular PSS (payload supply system) interface between the satellite bus and the individual payloads, which was designed by Kayser-Threde. Here, too, one of the aims of the assignment was to design a payload of the lowest possible mass fitting into smallest space.
Teamwork Collaborating with Kayser-Threde in the TET-1 project are the companies Astro- und Feinwerktechnik Adlershof GmbH, DLR`s German Space Operation Center (GSOC) located at Oberpfaffenhofen near Munich, and Lavoshkin Association. TET-1 was realized with funds from BMWi (grant no. 50 RV 0801).
Kayser-Threde is looking forward to the TET-1 launch on Sunday, July 22, 2012 and wishes TET-1 and all involved a successful mission!
About Kayser-Threde GmbH
Kayser-Threde is a major systems supplier specialised in the development and implementation of high-tech solutions for the sectors space, science and industry. The extensive product portfolio comprises system solutions for manned and unmanned space missions, optical systems and process control engineering.
In addition to the technology experiment carrier TET-1, the company currently realises another national satellite: EnMAP, an optical hyperspectral satellite for the further investigation of our environment. All six MTG-satellites for the future European weather satellite constellation shall be equipped with sophisticated instrumentation and sensors designed and manufactured by Kayser-Threde. In 2007 Kayser-Threde became part of OHB AG, Bremen, listed on the Prime Standard.
